Student of the Month

At SPU, we're all about creative and profitable marketing campaigns. Our Student of the Month feature will highlight a SPU member who has created a fun, profitable, and popular marketing campaign.

Each month a colleague will share details about how they designed their campaign and how effective it was. Sharing knowledge among each other is another benefit of the SPU community.

How long have you been in business? I've been shooting for clients for 6 years but I've been an LLC for a year and a half.

Why did you choose photography? Ever since I can remember I've always taken pictures.  I found that it was my passion when I took a class on it through 4-H and really loved creating beautiful images!  When I found out that photography was something I could major in I jumped on it.  I've always loved photographing children and it seemed natural to follow that path.

Who are some of your favorite mentors? Debbie Kertz is a local PPA photographer and has helped develop my eye and has always given sound advice!  There were a few professors at the University of Central Missouri that also pushed me to become a better photographer, never letting me think that a dream was to big to go after.  Sam Puc has been one of my biggest mentors.  I've become close with her over the last year and a half and she's really given me some great opportunities to learn and grow as a photographer.

Why did you chose the brand/style that you did? Why did you chose the brand/style that you did?  The area that I am located in is primarily country, but being only 10 minutes from the city gives it an urban feel as well.  Kathleen Hawkins has described it as being Restoration Hardware meets Pottery Barn, which I wholly agree with!  All of the locals are very excited and supportive to finally have a photographer in the immediate area!  I couldn't have asked for a better location!

Did you hire someone to create the look for you?
This look was something that I came up with for myself.  While my degree was in Photography my minor was in graphic design.

What does your look say about you? I feel it says we are a little country, a little classy, and a whole lot of fun!  My clients tend to agree with that as well!

How did you come up with this concept? I purchased the Marketing Kit from Marathon's BellaGrafica team a year ago and fell in love with this piece!  It incorporated the circles that I use on everything and seemed like a natural fit!

What marketing materials did you create for this campaign? I created an e-mail blast, had the card printed, and also included the same concept into my new business cards as well.

How did you execute this campaign, and how was it received in the community?  The community loved it!  I released it at the open house and it really stood out from the standard pieces that I also had printed.

If you do this campaign again, what would you change?  For the first set that I had printed I chose not to have the pearl finish, after I got the business cards back I decided that the colors would look much better if I had gone with the pearl finish.

Just because:

Tell us about a country you would like to visit most and why? I would love to visit Tuscany and travel around Italy.  It seems so full of life and I would love to see Rome!  The colors seem to just burst out of the images that I've seen!

Tell us about your favorite music / song / band? Norah Jones has been my pick lately, but the majority of what I listen to is country, especially Little Big Town.  I love the blending of voices and stories that each performer creates.

Tell us about something you would happily do again?
As crazy as it sounds I would repeat everything from the last year, from moving home instead of Colorado and then building the studio at my parent's farm again.  It has been such a blessing to be near them as the business has started to grow and expand, and having that extra pair of hands available doesn't hurt either!

Name your 3 favorite foods? Sunshine Cheez-it's,  New Market, Alabama BBQ, and my dad's fried chicken :)

Share one interesting bit of trivia about you?  It's hard to choose only one individual, so I won't :)  My parents have been the absolute greatest over the years, they believe in my dream and they are always there when I need support.  I am also blessed to have my Aunt Anne in my life.  She is never negative and is always ready to help out at a moment's notice.  She is what keeps me sane half the time and she is always encouraging me to pursue my goals to the fullest!
